Crowns & Bridges

Crowns and Bridges

Both crowns and bridges serve to restore the functionality and aesthetics of the mouth, allowing patients to chew, speak, and smile confidently.
Crowns and bridges are common dental prosthetic devices used to restore damaged or missing teeth. A crown, also known as a cap, covers a damaged tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. It’s typically recommended for teeth with extensive decay, fractures, or after root canal treatment. Bridges consist of one or more artificial teeth anchored by crowns on adjacent healthy teeth or dental implants. They replace missing teeth, restoring functionality and aesthetics. Both crowns and bridges are custom-made to match the natural color and contour of the teeth, providing durable and long-lasting solutions for dental restoration. Regular oral hygiene is crucial for maintaining their longevity.

They also help maintain the alignment of surrounding teeth, prevent shifting, and distribute forces evenly during chewing. Proper oral hygiene practices and regular dental check-ups are essential for the longevity of crowns and bridges.

  • Crowns (Caps): A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are often recommended for teeth that have large fillings, extensive decay, fractures, or have undergone root canal treatment. They can be made from various materials such as porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination of these materials. Crowns are custom-made to fit snugly over the tooth and are cemented into place by a dentist.

  • Bridges: Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth (pontics) to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. The adjacent teeth, known as abutments, are prepared by shaping them to accommodate dental crowns. The pontic is then attached to the crowns on either side, effectively “bridging” the gap created by the missing tooth or teeth. Like crowns, bridges can be made from various materials to match the natural teeth in appearance.
